Broadband internet users in Pakistan cross 50 million

Pakistan has seen a slight increase in the number of broadband internet subscribers after the launch of 3G, 4G, and 4G LTE services, a few year ago. The increase in budget-friendly 3G/4G supported smartphones in the country is the driving force for common consumer to avail internet services. As of now, the number of broadband subscribers including those who are using 3G and 4G services in Pakistan has blown past the 50 million mark, observing a 24.5 percent increase in penetration from November 2017.

Mobile broadband subscribers remained the major contributor with 47 million 3G/4G subscribers until now, according to the data revealed on PTA’s site. 3G and 4G subscriptions have observed around 23 percent penetration. Meanwhile, the number of Fixed Local Line Subscribers have reached around 3 million.

Back in November 2017, 3G/4G users in Pakistan reached 46 million, while broadband subscribers at that time were reaching 48 million. Until now, the number of mobile phone users in the country has reached 144 million as compared to 142.5 million in October 2017. Interestingly, the teledensity for mobile phones has also increased, as it has reached 70.83 percent.

PTA is also expediting the launch of 5G technology in Pakistan, which is all set to be commercially available by the year 2020. Last year, the federal cabinet has approved the launch of 5G technology in the country. Cabinet has also directed PTA to conduct initial tests for 5G.
