Yes, it’s true: Evan Spiegel, the founder and CEO of SnapChat, is right here in Pakistan as confirmed by his recent tweet. Spiegel, alongside his Stanford University colleagues Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, is the founder of the famous self-destructing photo messaging application which has millions of active users.
Both Evan and his creation SnapChat, a company recently valued at $10 billion, have previously gotten a lot of media coverage, both positive and negative, mainly due to a few controversies, security issues, and photo leaks incidents.
According to an e-mail sent by university administration to its students and faculty members, Speigel, who is just 24, will be addressing the students of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) – SEECS tomorrow, December 4th, between 10–11 AM. Moreover, he will be accompanied by Augie Fabela, co-founder of the sixth largest telecom company in the world, VimpelCom Group.
NUST administration has also reportedly announced that the event will be streamed live. We are not sure if the visit to NUST is the only reason why Evan and Fabela are here, but we will keep you updated as the story unfolds.
Update (10:50 PM — 03/12/2014): According to the developing details on the matter, the talk is being hosted in collaboration with Mobilink. This might be related to the ongoing Mobilink DISCOVER Business Plan competition to serve as a mentoring session for the competing entrepreneurs, as NUST Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship is also a partner for the business plan competition.
