In recent news, hackers have leaked over 3.2 billion passwords in what is said to be the largest data breach in history. This was done through the hacking of the website servers of the social app known as ‘RockYou’ which has leaked billions of passwords stored in numerous databases. This attack is known as the ‘RockYou2021’ which is reminiscent of the similar data breach that happened in 2009.
Moreover, this data breach led to the data being made viral in clear text format. This is not new as hackers have been known to take advantage of such platforms by combining millions of password variations with existing breach compilations of emails and their respective usernames.
If you think your data has been breached or if there is a likely chance you have been hacked then you head to the ‘have I been pwned?’ website and enter your email or your phone number to see if your data has been leaked. You can access the site by clicking here.
In order to ensure more security, you can enable the two-factor authentication (2FA) method for your respective accounts and even install password managers that store all your complicated passwords.
