World’s biggest porn site starts accepting cryptocurrency

One of the world’s largest porn sites, Pornhub, which offers some of its premium quality content for subscribers only, has started accepting cryptocurrency as a payment option. The site now accepts Verge cryptocurrency, a rebranded version of Dogecoindark.

Users can pay for any Pornhub features including a premium subscription using Verge cryptocurrency. In addition, Pornhub’s adult sister sites, Brazzers and Nutaku, have also started accepting Verge cryptocurrency, reports Cnet.

As the Verge cryptocurrency is anonymity-focused, that is why Pornhub executives have chosen it over other potential partners. It should be noted that anyone can view Verge cryptocurrency transactions through its public ledger, but it uses the anonymity tool Tor and an anonymous network layer I2P to hide specific transactions’ IP addresses and locations.

According to Pornhub’s VP Corey Price,

“Here at Pornhub, we’re all about convenience and security, which makes cryptocurrency an attractive form of payment for us. We’ve been looking at crypto for quite some time and, while overall adoption is relatively low, we think it has gained enough steam for us to penetrate the market. Nonetheless, we are excited to take this next step to keep current with our community’s payment preferences and offer them this viable alternative.”

Meanwhile, Verge cryptocurrency has been pretty volatile, like other popular digital coins. Last December, when most digital currencies were on the rise, Verge cryptocurrency hit nearly $0.22 per coin but has since dropped back down. On the heels of this announcement today, it rose to about 10 cents per coin, which is still low compared to more popular digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Pornhub is not the only adult entertainment company to toy around with blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Webcam platform CamSoda recently teased an interactive crypto platform to boost its products’ marketing.
