Apple’s next iPhone is rumored to have facial recognition powered by a laser sensor, 5.8 inch OLED display and wireless charging features.
This was stated in a note distributed to clients by Cowen and Company, a financial services firm. The note includes several details about iPhone which will be reportedly released in September. The analyst Timothy Arcuri wrote,
“Other features appear to include some form of facial/gesture recognition supported by a new laser sensor and an infrared sensor mounted near the front-facing camera and, as expected, should also finally include wireless charging,”
Apple bought PrimeSense, an infrared sensor company, in 2013 and it may create infrared sensors for Apple’s augmented reality program.
There are many speculations that there will be a new 5.8-inch model, with a ‘wraparound’ OLED screen with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor underneath the glass. The OLED screen will be thinner, brighter and will consume less power. Also, reportedly there will be three models; 5.8″, 5.5″ and 4.7″. According to an analyst, iPhone will feature a 5.8-inch display with 5.15 inches of usable screen space. Apple will replace home buttons with virtual buttons.
Another rumor is about how the new iPhone will look like. The speculations suggest that the company is getting rid of aluminium cover for stainless steel that brings together two reinforced glass panels supported by a metal frame.
‘The metal bezel will be made of stainless steel using a forging process to enhance its sturdiness and reduce costs and manufacturing time,’ reports DigiTimes.
With all the radical design improvements, the price of this phone is expected to be over $1000. The OLED displays for the iPhone will be manufactured by Samsung Display.
Arcuri is calling the newly designed iPhone as “iPhone X” or “iPhone 10” or as others are suggesting, “iPhone 8”.
