Apple’s macOS Update Leaks Details of Upcoming M4 MacBook Air Models

Apple’s recent macOS Sequoia 15.2 update has inadvertently revealed key details about the company’s upcoming MacBook Air lineup, which is expected to feature the new M4 chipset. Two new models, a 13-inch and a 15-inch MacBook Air, are expected to be released in 2025, according to leaked software references.

The software leak, discovered by MacRumors, which identifies the devices as “Mac16,12” and “Mac16,13,” by Apple’s naming conventions for its updated MacBook Air series. This implies that the new MacBook Air models will maintain the same display proportions as their predecessors, with no significant design modifications anticipated. Rather, it seems that Apple is emphasizing the improvement of internal hardware, a strategy that is consistent with the recent M4 MacBook Pro updates.

Apple is probably going to provide comparable advancements to the MacBook Air family with the M4 MacBook Pro bringing standard 16GB of unified RAM and 512GB of storage. While no official announcements have been made, the expected release window for the next MacBook Air is between March and June 2025, with pricing expected to start at $1,199, just slightly higher than the present M3 MacBook Air.

The leaked software, which addresses both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, suggests that manufacturing of these new computers is probably about to start. With the M3 MacBook Air available at discounted prices, Apple faces the challenge of balancing affordability with the introduction of its latest M4 hardware.
