The Cupertino giant Apple has been the face of innovation for providing tech gadgets for quite a while. Among other innovative gadgets, Apple Watch is also becoming popular these days in various regions. Apple Watch Series 3 model is a leg up than its previous models because of its LTE connectivity features. Another example of life-changing features of Apple Watch has recently been proved in a major car accident in a state of the US.
Kacie Anderson, a 24-year-old mom relied on the SOS feature from her Apple Watch to call 911 emergency services for her and her baby when her iPhone was gone out of reach during a car accident. Apple Watch helped save her and her 9-month old baby’s life after a drunk driver hit their car.
Apple introduced the emergency SOS feature to Apple Watch in the watchOS 3 software update back in 2016. Holding down the side button on Apple Watch for a few seconds calls 911 (emergency services in the US) and sends a text to your emergency contact saying that you need help. The feature also sends your current location to the relevant people, when used.
Kacie told Shape.com exclusively that she has been wearing the Apple Watch for quite a while but never really got to use the SOS feature. According to her,
“The moment he hit us everything inside the car went airborne. My face took a horrible blow to the steering wheel, headrest, back to the steering wheel, and then to the window. I blacked out for about a minute and could not see. My eyes were wide open but all I saw was black. My hands flew around to feel for my phone and then I realized I had my watch on and commanded it to call 911.”
Where her son suffered minor bruises and scrapes, her own injuries from the accident were severe enough that she wasn’t able to look after his son and required immediate medical attention, as she says,
“The ambulance arrived and immediately put me on a stretcher and stabilized my neck and back. I had a severe concussion that caused dizziness and confusion for several weeks, and drainage from my ears and nose because my brain was swollen.”
Kacie feels blessed to have Apple Watch by her side which called the ambulance in no time. SOS feature is indeed a great work of innovation by the company, that is saving lives.
