The Cupertino giant Apple is said to launch a new budget-friendly iPhone which will drop Face ID and support in-display Touch ID fingerprint sensor, as reported by Global Times. The new budget-friendly iPhone is tipped to launch first in China.
Little else is known about the new iPhone, but as Global Times reports, the purpose behind creating a budget-friendly phone is to grab Chinese market share, which in recent years have been in control of the local brands including Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo. These Chinese brands dominated the market by launching smartphones with cutting-edge designs at low prices.
According to reports, over 85% of the Chinese market belongs to mobile phones with prices under 4,000 yuan ($580). Apple company tried to cover that market with its iPhone SE when it launched at price $399, but the tech giant’s strategy to fill the space with old generation iPhones does not seem to be working.
Apple, since December, has filed at least five patents containing in-display Touch ID and is developing the tech to manufacture such an iPhone. Moreover, multiple rumors suggest that the tech Apple is developing not only has the potential to scan your fingerprint but can also create a 3D model of it.
A budget iPhone with an in-display fingerprint scanner in it will surely grab the market in an instant and would be a global hit. It is to be kept in mind that these are all just rumors, and Apple has not officially confirmed about a budget iPhone launch, but as Forbes reported that in-display fingerprint scanner and Face ID will return to the new 2020 iPhones.
Furthermore, it is also reported that Apple is planning to make an affordable version of iPhone XR’s successor which will support an in-display fingerprint scanner and is going to target the smartphone market in China.
