The tech giant, Apple has been sued for a patent infringement of using dual-camera technology in iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus by an Israel based startup, Corephotonics.
Yesterday, after winning a lawsuit against Samsung for patent infringement of slide-to-unlock feature which revolved around courts for 3 years, Apple has become a target of yet another patent infringement suit. According to Reuters, Tel Aviv-based Corephotonics has filed a patent suit against Apple alleging that the dual-camera technology used in the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus infringe on its patented technology.
To be more precise, Corephotonics alleges that Apple infringes on four of its patents related to technology for smartphone dual-camera sensors and some features such as optical zoom. The patents were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office between November 2013 and June 2016.
Corephotonics CEO David Mendlovic claims,
“Apple’s lead negotiator expressed contempt for Corephotonics’ patents, telling [CEO] Dr. Mendlovic and others that even if Apple infringed, it would take years and millions of dollars in litigation before Apple might have to pay something.”
The dual camera tech was used by Apple in iPhone 7 Plus which was launched back in September 2016. However many premium smartphones manufacturer like Huawei, Motorolla, OnePlus and even Samsung have used dual camera technology in their flagships and midrange models too. HTC Evo 3D was the first smartphone to feature rear dual cameras, launched in 2011.
Corephotonics has earlier raised $50 million in funding, most recently through a $15 million round from the likes of Samsung Ventures, MediaTek, and Foxconn. Foxconn, of course, is an Apple manufacturing partner.
As for now, iPhone X has not been filed in this patent lawsuit as it is launched quite recently, but it might be added to the list. iPhone X is available at Pakistani e-commerce stores you can easily purchase it by visiting their site.
