Apple rated the World’s most environment friendly tech company, for third time in a row

Apple, the tech giant which introduced the jack-less iPhone last year, has again been ranked first among the World’s most green technology companies – as per a report from Greanpeace, which is an environmental observant and research organization.

The report mentioned that Apple has continually expanded the supply of renewable energy at par with the phenomenal growth it has witnessed during the past years. Apple earned, an overall A, for greenness, with clean energy index calculated at 83%. The company also got As in most of the subsidiary branches that include energy transparency, renewable energy commitment, energy efficiency and mitigation, and renewable procurement. The company, however, earned a B in the green advocacy.

Gary Cook, Greenpeace’s Senior IT analyst and lead author of the report, acknowledged in a statement, “Thanks to the leadership and advocacy of companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, and Switch, we are seeing the tech industry make major strides toward powering the internet with clean energy.”

Facebook got ranked second with an overall A, and a clean energy index score of 67%. Google also closed in at the top three spots. Google managed to clinch an overall clean energy index at a lower 56%, along with an overall A.The report also threw light on the energy footprint of the IT sector globally. Greenpeace calculated it to be about 7% of global electricity.
