Apple may discontinue iPhone X after the arrival of new model

Apple’s 10th-anniversary smartphone might be discontinued.

You won’t be able to get a brand new iPhone X at a discounted price. Because the Cupertino based tech giant, Apple might discontinue the smartphone after the arrival of a new model. An analyst at KGI Securities has predicted that Apple will kill off the original iPhone X once the second-generation model hits the Apple stores.

Usually, when the newer models of a smartphone arrive, the older one gets a price cut. That’s why most of the people wait out for a discount on the newly launched devices. But this is not going to work in case of Apple’s iPhone X. The new report by MacRumors, drawing conclusion from the analysis of KGI Securities has revealed that Apple will not sell iPhone X at a lower price as it will affect its other products in the lower-priced market segment. According to Ming-Chi Kuo,

iPhone X would hurt product brand value & lineup of 2H18 new models if it continues to sell at a lower price after 2H18 new models launch: Lowering iPhone X’s price after the 2H18 new models launch would be a negative to product brand value given 3D sensing and OLED display are features of the new high-price model. Additionally, to sell iPhone X at a lower price may have a negative impact on shipments of the new 6.1″ LCD iPhone in 2H18. Thus, we estimate iPhone X will reach end-of-life (EOL) around the middle of 2018.”

If the analysis of KGI comes true Apple’s smartphones line up of 2018 would also have smartphone featuring a 5.8-inch screen and will be dubbed as the second generation of iPhone X. Hence the 2018 manufacturing line-up of iPhones will include the mid-range 6.1-inch iPhone, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, and iPhone SE models.

Meanwhile, Apple has been under scrutiny in Italy over planned obsolescence that the tech giant reduced the performance of older iPhones with software updates to propel users to buy new models.
