Apple iOS 12’s new feature will let your AirPods work as hearing aids

The Cupertino giant has brought many new features and updates in currently on-going Worldwide Developers Conference, namely the most awaited iOS 12, Apple’s new desktop operating system – macOS Mojave, watchOS 5 update and more. Now, we get to hear about one other functionality regarding the company’s wireless earphones, being referred as ‘Live Listen ’, will make Apple AirPods to be used as a hearing aid.

Previously, this feature, in particular, was a part of the firm’s Made for iPhone hearing aid program. However, Apple will now be bringing it all the iOS 12 supported devices as an update. It works by making your device a sort of remote mic, for example, if you find difficulty in hearing in a clamoring environment or due to some hearing defect, you can just bring your iPhone close to the subject you want to hear from and can listen to all the sound via your AirPods.

It must be noted that it is not a complete solution for the serious hearing impairment, as for that a proper hearing aid device would be suggested. Though, Live Listen functionality could help the users with the minor hearing issues. They would just have to simply access the feature in the settings menu on their iPhones.

With this update, Apple would have the edge on the impaired listeners by making the AirPods more preferable among the rival headphones. Not to mention, the Cupertino giant is not the only one in the market to bring forth such accessibility feature. Some other wireless headset manufactures like Nuheara IQbuds also provide similar functionalities.

For the AirPod owners wanting to make use of this feature, they would have to wait for the public release of iOS 12 due this fall.
