Apple releases iOS 11.2.6 and macOS 10.13.3 to fix the crashing problem

Yes, Android-powered smartphones’ manufacturers are no match for Apple, as the Cupertino giant introduces the latest software updates at a fast pace even for older models. However, they sometimes are of no use for users, as Apple has introduced such updates, which have reduced the performance of the older iPhones. As far as I remember, that case has reached to the investigations in the US.

Irrespective of the fact, that how much people love their updates, Apple has released iOS 11.2.6 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iOS 11.2.6 did not go through any beta tests before it was released to the public, however, iOS 11.3 is currently being tested by developers.

This is not all, updates available today include iOS 11.2.6 for iPhone and iPad alongside, tvOS 11.2.6 for Apple TV, watchOS 4.2.3 for Apple Watch, and macOS 10.13.3 supplemental update for Mac. All current betas of iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS also fix the crashing problem. This is the third time in the past few months that Apple has issued iOS 11 updates to fix bugs that crash iPhones.

According to the iOS release notes;

  • Fixes an issue where using certain character sequences could cause apps to crash
  • Fixes an issue where some third-party apps could fail to connect to external accessories

Recently, Apple announced that there will be no new features for next iOS, instead, Apple will focus on improving the operating system and now it looks like it has already started happening.

Meanwhile, the bug was discovered last week, allowing anyone to send a simple character to an iPhone to crash the device and lock out access to certain messaging apps. The bug also affects Safari and the built-in Messages app on macOS and the Apple Watch. However, the new updates will hopefully eradicate the bug.

iOS 11.2.6 is considered a minor point software update so Apple did not add any new notable features to it.
