Apple has started testing 5G millimeter wave wireless technology

Tech maestro Apple has just started testing 5G millimeter wave wireless technology. The new technology could help Apple to increase the speed of its phone’s cellular connection. Moreover, it could also improve the bandwidth of Apple’s cellular connection.

Apple has filed application to US FCC to test its 5G millimeter wave wireless technology. The company is planning to test its technology at two different locations.

Apple while filing application to FCC said, “Apple seeks to assess cellular link performance in direct path and multi-path environments between base station transmitters and receivers using this spectrum. These assessments will provide engineering data relevant to the operation of devices on wireless carriers’ future 5G networks”.

The application also mentioned 28GHz and 39GHz bands, which were approved by FCC last year for commercial use for 5G applications as reported by Business Insider.

This filing by Apple comes in when it has settled its legal spat with Nokia.

Nokia and the tech giant Apple were in a dispute recently over patents, however the companies have reconciled. The companies have agreed to new terms. The press release from Apple’s newsroom in this regard reads,

We are pleased with this resolution of our dispute and we look forward to expanding our business relationship with Nokia,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer.

Furthermore, Apple has made it clear in the application that the time for testing the new technology will not exceed from 12 months period.
