The Cupertino’s tech giant has earned loads of cash by selling its tenth-anniversary smartphone — iPhone X last year and this year as well. But analysts predict that Apple’s next plan of making tons of money doesn’t have iPhone X in it, neither the good old iPhone SE, the Apple’s smallest and cheapest iPhone ever.
Barron’s BlueFin research is out and the investor notes that Apple will discontinue iPhone X and iPhone SE this year in its move to focus on upcoming iPhone models which include the “iPhone 9, iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Plus.” The analyst believes that Apple will stop manufacturing iPhone X and SE at a certain time this year due to “pent-up demand” and “lack of upgrade activity over the past few years.”
The analyst predicts that Apple is betting big on newer 2018 iPhone models as the company is “planning for 91 million units to be built” for the last two quarters of this year. While in the first two quarters of 2019, Apple is expected to manufacture “another 92 million units”.
Apple’s key focus this year is on big screen iPhones with comparatively lower prices as we have heard in rumors that Apple is working on 6.1-inch LCD iPhone and 6.5-inch OLED iPhone as part of 2018 family. Meanwhile, an iPhone SE’s successor with iPhone X like design element in a smaller size has also appeared in numerous leaks.
BlueFin analysts predict a giant wave of upgrades is underway and Apple will be focusing on providing upgraded cameras, 3D Face ID and longer battery life in upcoming bigger phones. As the iPhone X and SE are about to be discontinued from the third quarter of this year, consumers will be left with no option other than to buy new 2018 iPhone models. The analyst states;
“The iPhone 11 Plus should satisfy those unhappy with the iPhone X due to size concerns, while the iPhone 9 device should satisfy more budget-conscious buyers and the aforementioned extension of the iPhone 8 model builds will round out a fairly extensive line-up. We continue to hear that upgrade activity over the past.”
Apple’s iPhone X was rumored to be discontinued at the very beginning of this year, so we must take such theories with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, what Apple brings new to the table is something we all are waiting for.
