Apple admits that it reduces iPhone’s performance as the battery ages

Just recently, we told our readers about the new report by Geekbench founder, which indicated that Apple reduces the speed of processors as the iPhones get old. As of now, the Cupertino based tech giant which is not usually known for giving immediate responses to such issues has finally spoken up on the matter. The company after admitting the fact explained that the practice has been done in order to deal with problems like unexpected shutdowns which are usually caused by aging batteries or cool conditions.

Apple said yesterday that a software feature which was released last year will make your phone operate more slowly to resolve problems with its aging lithium-ion batteries. As the batteries get older, they are unable to charge well as compared to new batteries. The older batteries may also encounter worst problems when the charge is low or in cold temperature.

Most of the iPhone 6 and 6S users have encountered a similar sort of problems in the past. The processors in those devices wanted to work hard and fast but those old batteries were unable to handle that burden, ultimately became the cause of unexpected shutdowns of the iPhones. To resolve such issues Apple started a project with iOS updates to resolve these issues, with first update of iOS 10.2.1 last year. The update in the operating system slows down the device’s performance to prevent random shutdowns.

According to a statement by Apple,

“Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future”.

Furthermore, Apple has also clarified that the practice is only done in the cases of cold temperature, a low battery charge, and very old batteries.

As we can conclude from the above facts that the solution to slower and older models of iPhones will be updating its battery instead of buying a new smartphone. The change of battery may cost you $80, however, your phone will have no warranty afterward.
