All Facebook employees have reportedly been ordered to use Android phones

Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly ordered his management team to only use Android phones, in light of comments made by Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding Cambridge Analytica in March this year. A reporter asked the Apple CEO what would he do if he were in the same situation as Mark to which he replied: “I wouldn’t be in this situation.” and that infuriated Zuckerberg.

New York Times first reported on this situation but Facebook has issued a modest statement saying: “We’ve long encouraged our employees and executives to use Android because it is the most popular operating system in the world.” It’s not exactly clear what provoked Mark to issue the order but in light of the above-stated scenario, it seems pretty clear that Facebook CEO is taking Cook’s comments seriously.

In terms of business point of view, there could be both good and bad implications. Facebook employees aren’t necessarily restricted if they are to use Android phones because there are limitless opportunities. But to a great extent, developers dedicated for iOS apps of Facebook would have to use iPhones and other Apple devices, so Mark’s order wouldn’t technically be applicable everywhere.

At the time of writing, several FB executives are still using iPhones according to The Verge so it is possible that his order hasn’t fully been reinforced yet. What are your thoughts regarding Mark’s order? Are you in favor of this restriction?
