BEIJING: Alibaba has officially launched its Qwen 2.5 AI model, claiming it outperforms DeepSeek-V3 and other leading AI models. The announcement was made on Wednesday (today), positioning Qwen 2.5 as a strong competitor in the AI landscape.
According to Alibaba’s cloud division, “Qwen 2.5-Max surpasses GPT-4o, DeepSeek-V3, and Llama-3.1-405B in almost every aspect,” referencing AI models from OpenAI and Meta.
DeepSeek introduced its AI assistant powered by the DeepSeek-V3 model on January 10, followed by the R1 model on January 20. These rapid developments have intensified competition in the AI sector, impacting investor confidence and causing a decline in tech shares as they reassess spending on major AI firms in the U.S.
In response to DeepSeek’s progress, rival companies are stepping up their game. Just two days after DeepSeek-R1’s release, ByteDance unveiled an upgrade to its AI model, claiming it surpassed Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s o1 in AIME, a key benchmark for AI comprehension. With Qwen 2.5 AI model now in the mix, the competition among tech giants is expected to heat up further.
