AI Degree Program Announced by Karachi University

KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) Department of Computer Science has announced plans to start a Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) degree program that will last for four years.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi has directed that the AI program proposal be submitted to the agenda for approval at the upcoming Academic Council meeting on December 3.

The program has received approval from both the Board of Studies in the Department of Computer Science and the Board of Faculty (Faculty of Science). Upon receiving clearance from the Academic Council, admissions will be opened for the upcoming academic session.

Additionally, the entrance requirements and the total number of seats are subject to change. According to Dr. Khalid Iraqi, Vice Chancellor, “We want to offer high-quality education in innovative domains” (The Express Tribune). Prior to its submission to the Academic Council for approval, this curriculum has been carefully examined by the Board of Faculty.

Dr. Sadiq Ali Khan, head of the computer science department, said that the AI curriculum was designed to meet the standards set by the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC).

Two state-of-the-art smart classrooms with interactive technology are nearly completed in the department to support this endeavor. The goal of these classrooms is to assist technical workshops and improve instruction. At the moment, Software Engineering and Computer Science are both offered as four-year Bachelor of Science degrees by KU’s Department of Computer Science.
