Education Minister, Punjab, Rana Mashhood has announced that construction of a new IT University in Rahim Yar Khan is underway expected to be be completed by 2018, on Sunday.
He announced this while speaking to a delegation of university teachers from southern Punjab districts.
The minister further added that ” establishment of the Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Technology will prove a milestone in promotion of education in the region. The university would offer four-year bachelors’ degree programmes in engineering, information technology (IT) and information and communication technology (ICT). These programmes will later be upgraded to offer master’s and doctorate degrees as well.”
“The cost of setting up the institute will be Rs 3.84 billion” – said the Minister.
He seemed hopeful and commented that ” by the establishment of the university, students from Bahawalpur division would no longer need to travel far away from their homes to get good quality higher education.”
Foundation of the university was laid an year ago by Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif.
