Microsoft’s famous operating system version, Windows 7, would soon be gone as Microsoft plans to end its official support within a year.
The tech company could soon be bidding farewell to the famous Windows 7. According to a fact-sheet from Microsoft, the operating system would not be receiving any new security updates, patches and/or other support from Microsoft one year from now. “You can continue to use ‘Windows 7’, but once support ends, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks,” Microsoft wrote.
Microsoft had stopped sending the main updates to Windows 7 with the announcements of newer Windows versions back in 2015. But it continued to send different free security-related patches and offered extended hotfixes for the operating system. Microsoft would end the support for Windows 7 in exactly a year, i.e by January 14, 2020. It would be worth mentioning here, that the company will still be offering paid support which would have its prices increase every year.
Microsoft Windows 7 is probably one of the most popular operating system version to have come out of the Windows platform. According to facts, Windows 7 is still installed on about 42.7% of PCs and Windows 10 was just recently able to overtake Windows 7 in terms of the userbase. This is a huge number considering the version has been out for more than 10 years now. Windows 8 and 8.1 introduced major design revamps as compared to Windows 7. Ending the support for Windows 7 also points at Microsoft’s efforts to push users towards using the newer Windows versions.
