Every year, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, shares a personal resolution for the new year. In the past, Mark has shared goals of reading a book, running a mile every day, building a personal AI assistant, or meeting new people and traveling to different states. This year, his goal is somewhat different; he plans to focus on Facebook to fix the broken things.
Mark Zuckerberg, in his Facebook post, shared that;
He said that he will be studying cryptocurrencies and other decentralizing technologies to improve the experience of Facebook. Facebook has been under strict scrutiny over the US Presidential Election campaign and how the platform was used to share bogus and fake news regarding the running candidates. It is concluded that Russian forces bought several ads on Facebook to propagate an agenda which impacted the outcome of elections.
Mark Zuckerberg initially was wary of these claims and denied such allegations but later admitted that Facebook has become an unprecedented force in this age of technology.
To solve the issues, Facebook is surrounded with, Mark Zuckerberg mentioned decentralization and cryptocurrency.
He said,
“There are important counter-trends to this – like encryption and cryptocurrency – that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people’s hands…I’m interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, and how best to use them in our services.”
