Apple to launch 6.1-inch LCD iPhone with metal back in 2018

Apple iPhone 7

After facing troubles with iPhone X which has been ranked even lower than iPhone 8 by Consumers Report because of its easily breakable sleek glass body, Apple is planning to change course. A new report from Nikkei has revealed that Apple’s upcoming smartphone lineup will feature a metal back similar to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

According to the report, the upcoming iPhone, not sure whether it will be called iPhone 9 or iPhone XI, will only have a single change in its design and it is the metal back. With this change comes the addition of colors, as this aluminum body will feature several new colors.

The report also reveals that 6.1-inch iPhone model will be featuring the same old LCD display, rather than OLED. While the other two handsets with 5.8 and the 6.3-inch screen will feature OLED displays and metallic back.

Another source claims that Casetek, a supplier of Apple has been experimenting with new casing designs for the 2018 LCD iPhone. If this firm is able to finalize production plan for a larger scale, it could link up with parent company Pegatron in fulfilling whole iPhone orders. The situation will create a hell of a competition as another supplier Foxconn is working on the process of its own metal parts for mass production of iPhone units.

We are still very far to see Apple launching its next year’s flagships, however, the tech giant’s move back to an aluminum back design could be a cost-saving measure, as most of us can’t bear the loss when the phone drops and its all-glass body is a waste.
