Apple iMac Pro to feature always-on Siri & A10 Fusion chip

iMac Pro

Remember the iMac Pro that Apple announced about 6 months ago? It is going to be the most powerful iMac ever and it will cost you at least $5,000. The iMac Pro will come with insane specifications and is targeted towards people who are looking for “ludicrous speed” in their computers. It will feature an Intel Xeon processor of up to 18 cores (Yes, 18, not 8) with up to 42 MB cache. The processor will reach the amazing speed of up to 4.5 GHz and it will be one of the few computers to cross 4 GHz frequency mark. Moreover, it will have up to 11 teraflops of GPU horsepower for the graphic designers and video editors out there and an option for 5K display is also there.

The iMac Pro is just a month away from its launch and a new report reveals that it will come with a few surprises. The report claims that it will come with an Apple A10 Fusion chipset. You might be thinking that why would a machine this powerful will come with a chipset featured in iPhone 7? Well, because it will add support for the always-on Siri and will also handle some macOS security processes.

It is to be noted that “Hey Siri” feature was still missing from the MacOS but the A10 Fusion chipset will finally add the support on Mac as well. It remains to be seen that how a mobile chipset will further help a machine which is ridiculously powerful. However, it is still a question that why didn’t Apple use the latest A11 Bionic chipset and went with a year old A10 Fusion. It may be because Apple wanted to cut the cost of the product or it might be testing the upcoming Mac with the A10 Fusion for long now.

Let’s talk a little bit more about what the upcoming iMac Pro has to offer. It will come with up to 4TB of SSD storage and a 5K display which is 43-percent brighter than the previous Mac. It supports up to 128 GB of RAM and comes with 16 GB RAM preinstalled. Moreover, it has the Radeon Vega graphics which are three times faster than the previous Mac and support for up to 10GB Ethernet. It also has 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The most interesting thing about the new iMac Pro is its price. It will come with a starting price tag of $5,000 and you will not get the 5K display until you pay $7,000. That’s not for me of course.
