Yesterday, Motorola published a list of smartphones which will be upgraded to Android Oreo. Strangely, the Moto G4 Plus was missing from the list as Motorola had promised to update the G4 Plus to Android O when it was launched.
Motorola even changed all the previous banners and ads and removed all the evidence of its promise. A lot of people noticed the change quickly and posted the previous banner and current banners on the Internet. Motorola has finally realized its mistake and promised again to update the Moto G4 Plus to Android O after all.
According to Motorola, it was a mistake in the marketing material of Moto G4 Plus and they only upgrade the Moto G family to one major OS which they have already done by upgrading it to Android Nougat. But as it has promised (no matter by mistake), it will be upgrading the G4 Plus to Android O. However, Motorola has not given any time frame. You might have to wait up to 6 months to get the update.
On behave of Motorola, Weber Shandwick has reached out to TechJuice and here is the official statement from Motorola:
“It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information.”
Despite the similar hardware, Motorola will only be upgrading the G4 Plus to Android O. The Moto G4 is still neglected but that’s ok because the Android O promise was published only on the G4 Plus marketing materials.
