Several power plans will start generating electricity next year as a result of which 8,000 MW of electricity will be added to the national grid, said Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

This comment comes on the heels of another similar claim by Abid Sher Ali that electricity will be diminished in Pakistan by March 2018. He further added that power will be easily accessible to anyone in every nook and corner of the country except for those who are not paying their bills.

It should be noted here that Pakistan’s total capacity for electricity generation is 21,143 MW and the demand is 14,500 MW while PEPCO is generating 10,000 MW. In the past couple of years, several private organizations and startups have sprung up which are trying to tackle the energy deficit in Pakistan by relying on alternate resources e.g solar panels, biogas etc. But there remains a huge demand and supply gap for electricity.
