The Xiaomi Mi5 came to replace the Mi4s as the Chinese company’s new flagship. As always, the new Xiaomi handset incorporates virtually everything one can desire on a mobile device today, catching up to big competitors such as the Galaxy S7 or the iPhone 6s with its sleek design and beast of a performance. The Xiaomi Mi5 is not only spectacular at first sight by its design (something that is corroborated when we catch it) but also when we turn on the screen. There we have an IPS panel of 5.15 inches with good viewing angles, and the contrast is very accurate. Xiaomi has left the resolution at 1080p, a good choice given that it offers us a pixel density of more than 420 dpi, which guarantees perfect visibility in terms of sharpness.
Another very good feature the Xiaomi Mi5’s screen is its brightness. There are more than 600 nits that allow a very good visualization in exteriors even with the direct light. Moreover, given its low height and width, it very handy to use.
With Mi5, Xiaomi has chosen to use a 16 megapixels camera in its flagship. It has done so with a Sony sensor IMX298 coated with a sapphire crystal, resistant to blows and scratches. Another point in favor of this camera is that it has focus by phase detection, which uses photodiodes to help focus more accurately and quickly. The stability achieved by the new Xiaomi Mi 5, thanks to its four-axis stabilizer, not only affects photographs but also enables smooth video capture. Its this excellent behavior provides stability for night photography, even for the shots closest to and more likely to be accepted by the movement of the device.
Along with 3 GB of RAM, good performance of Mi5 is guaranteed with the use of Snapdragon 820, a SoC with two Kyro cores at 1.8 Ghz and another two at 1.6 Ghz. GPU used in this phone is the Adreno 530. The internal memory of Mi5 is 32 GB, with the option to choose models of 64 or 128 GB. But on all those models, there is no microSD card slot. In the 32 GB model, despite the high customization and applications preinstalled by Xiaomi, the space available to the user is around 25 GB.
