The Information Commission’s Office (ICO)of UK has said that it will be monitoring how WhatsApp shares the user’s data with its parent company Facebook.

Elizabeth Denham, the Information Commissioner of UK, said in a news release that the organization will monitor the move and ensure none of the information privacy laws are violated.

Elizabeth said,

Our role is to pull back the curtain on things like this, ensuring that companies are being transparent with the public about how their personal data is being shared, and protecting consumers by making sure the law is being followed.”

She further said that although these type of organizations need not take approval from the concerned regulatory bodies but they will have to remain in the bounds as set by the data protection laws.

Just recently, WhatsApp announced that it has changed its Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy to make room for data sharing between the Facebook Group of Companies of which it now forms a part. Although the users can surely limit the data sharing if they prefer that their information should not be shared, but critics are predicting that WhatsApp will no longer remain the same.
