Government giving Rs. 900 million to NED University for completion of mega projects

The federal government will be providing NED University of Engineering & Technology with Rs. 900 million over the next 3 years to assist in the completion of several mega projects that have been initiated at the university campus.

The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal while inaugurating the Advanced Material Testing Laboratory at NED’s Department of Earthquake Engineering. He went on to say the government is doing everything to upgrade universities across the country and for that purpose several projects have been initiated in various universities.

According to Ahsan Iqbal, the government has allocated Rs. 1500 billion to achieve the aforementioned targets at universities. Double the amount has been set aside for improvements at education at the high school level.

“From the year 2010 to 2013, Rs. 100 billion were granted for the higher education… the grant was increased to Rs. 2015 billion from the year 2013 to 2016.”

Ahsan Iqbal has been invested in improving the state of education in the country as he believes it directly contributes to better economic growth. Earlier this month, he succeeded in his efforts for extension in the upper age limit of the CSS exam. Just a few days ago, the minister chaired a meeting that focused on the dire need of promoting STEM education in schools.

Last month when the provincial budgets were disclosed, all provinces allocated large sums for the betterment of the education system. But, like always, what remains to be seen is some actual good materialize out of it.
