Rocket Internet’s carpooling service Tripda is shutting down its operations worldwide including Pakistan, claims a report by Tech in Asia.

The report further claims that Tripda is shutting down because of not being able to raise enough investments. The car-pooling service launched its operations in Pakistan, back in December 2014 and just recently revealed the number of ride-sharings as much as 200 per week on its most popular routes. The backing out of service from the country leaves a lone player, Savaree, in the market. We have reached out to Country Manager of Tripda in Pakistan for comment and haven’t received a response yet.

Savaree also recently expanded and included car booking service because of concerns of trust and security from users regarding car-pooling with strangers.

This is not the first time that Rocket Internet’s venture has exited a market or shutdown abruptly. In past, Easy Taxi also left the Pakistani market. There is rumor mill surrounding foodpanda’s operation as well. Speculation that since the service is up for sale in India might led to same in Pakistan has been the topic of discussion.

With the growing internet penetration and awareness regarding car-pooling applications there is no direct information on how much car pooling is popular. On the other hand, Uber, Lyft, Careem, all car-booking services, are performing well in their regions of launch.

We will update the story as soon as we hear from Tripda.
