ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Division has released a security alert regarding the proper use of Wi-Fi.
The advice asserts that Wi-Fi connections are now fundamental to the information and communication technology infrastructure. Given the prevalence of cyber security risks, it is crucial to ensure the safety of Wi-Fi routers, since they are an integral part of every business or household network.
Malicious actors can constantly access the network/endpoints, install malware, and steal sensitive/private data because of the remarkable increase in critical known vulnerabilities, default security configurations, and user awareness. The alert provides information on the potential security risks associated with Wi-Fi connections and offers ways to prevent them.
The alert describes Wi-Fi routers as one of the least secure equipment due to their emphasis on usefulness rather than security. Recent studies have shown that vendors have failed to address or fix approximately one-third of the major vulnerabilities found in Wi-Fi routers.
In addition, a company’s security posture suffers when employees lack knowledge about how to secure and protect Wi-Fi routers.
The alert provides information on how to strengthen Wi-Fi routers and details numerous typical security holes.
