The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has revealed plans to introduce a facial recognition verification service through the Pak-ID mobile app at its centers across the country, as part of its initiatives for the upcoming year.
The aim is to simplify identity verification and enhance access to key services for senior citizens. This announcement came after a consultative conference at NADRA’s headquarters, where representatives from regulatory bodies discussed biometric advancements and the modernization of identity verification.
Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afsar, Chairman of NADRA, highlighted the challenges encountered by senior citizens, particularly pensioners, in the process of identity verification stemming from deteriorated fingerprints. He emphasized the significance of embracing contemporary technologies to address the requirements of this at-risk population.
The conference also explored the possibilities of iris recognition technology as a prospective method for verifying identity. Participants engaged in a dialogue about the advantages and possible obstacles of adopting these sophisticated solutions.
NADRA officials shared valuable insights regarding the “National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework” and the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP).” These initiatives are designed to propel the nation’s digital transformation and stimulate economic growth.
NADRA is set to enhance service delivery for all citizens by eliminating unnecessary delays in identity verification through this technological advancement. The implementation of facial recognition represents a noteworthy advancement in promoting inclusivity and modernizing identity verification systems in Pakistan.
The service will be available through the Pak-ID Mobile App and at NADRA Registration Centers nationwide from January 15, 2025.
