Texting On Apple Watch Ultra 3 Now Possible Without Wifi Or Cellular

Apple is preparing to enhance its smartwatch lineup with the highly anticipated Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is expected to introduce groundbreaking features. Among these is satellite communication, a feature that allows users to send emergency texts and contact roadside assistance. However, the Ultra 3 will expand this functionality, enabling iMessage communication even without requiring an iPhone, WiFi, or cellular connection, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.

In addition, Apple is working on integrating blood pressure monitoring into the Ultra 3. While this feature has been delayed beyond its initial 2023 release, it will alert users to potential hypertension rather than offering precise readings. Although Apple is also developing a non-invasive blood glucose tracker, it is unlikely to make its debut in the 2024 model.

Apple seems to be concentrating on these innovations in response to a decline in smartwatch sales. It has been reported that revenue from the wearables division has experienced a decline over the past two years, as users perceive diminishing incentives to pursue upgrades. By incorporating functionalities such as satellite communications and potentially blood pressure monitoring, Apple aims to rekindle consumer interest in its smartwatch products.

In a pertinent development, Apple is contemplating the transition to MediaTek modems for select variants of the Apple Watch in 2024. This would signify the company’s inaugural substantial component acquisition from MediaTek.

The newly developed modems, which are compatible with 5G Redcap technology, are specifically designed for peripheral devices that do not necessitate high-speed data connections. These enhancements are designed to reinforce Apple’s standing in the wearables market, simultaneously offering users both practical and sophisticated features.
