Internet services in Pakistan are showing a few improvements in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi; however, the situation remains problematic in numerous regions of the country, including Lahore, where internet speeds persist in being suboptimal.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not yet explained the ongoing issues, thereby leaving millions of users uninformed regarding the situation. It seems to lack any understanding of the reasons behind the continued existence of the issue.
Furthermore, these internet disruptions were corroborated by Downdetector.com, which indicated a surge in WhatsApp interruptions occurring at approximately 9 AM today (Monday), marking the second consecutive day of such incidents.
Students and freelancers are among the most affected as they encounter difficulties in fulfilling their academic deadlines and professional obligations.
Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, continue to exhibit notably sluggish performance in several urban areas. Users have indicated experiencing challenges in the processes of uploading and downloading photographs, videos, and audio recordings.
It is important to note that virtual private networks (VPNs) are also experiencing operational disruptions. Numerous individuals have identified the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) improper utilization of its newly implemented firewall as the primary cause of internet disruptions. The regulatory authority has not yet verified the disruption nor offered any elucidation regarding the circumstances.
