Why the world needs more women in tech

NextGeneration Recruitment, an Irish firm, has released an infographic that includes the number of women in tech from around the world, some notable female leaders and also raises the question why we need more women in tech and what can be done to keep them in the industry.

Despite the apparent technology boom in the world, a small number of women are opting for jobs in tech. And even in the most developed areas of the world, Europe has only 7% women filling up tech positions. The number of women in executive roles is shockingly small at below 20%, and we’re only talking about the first world countries here; the situation is even more bleak in developing countries. Even famous firms like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube have more than 65% male employees.

So where are the women? It’s sad to see the small number of women holding jobs in technology, but that is probably because of gender stereotypes, lack of talent pool and in-group favoritism. Go through the infographic to find out why the situation is so and what is being done to overturn it.
