RAWALPINDI: The chairman of the Punjab Education Foundation, Malik Shoaib Awan, stated on Monday that the private sector should assist in turning around more than 250 government schools in the Rawalpindi area that are considered to be underperforming.
According to him, the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) had chosen the administrators and faculty of these schools based only on their academic performance.
He made this statement at a foundation-sponsored event at Government Degree College for Boys Satellite Town, where representatives from seven districts’ private education sectors and several organizations’ heads were present. They will operate low-performing government schools using a public-private partnership model.
PEF Prioritizes Academic Excellence in School Administration
The private sector also presented certificates of appreciation to the teachers who performed exceptionally well. Participants were drawn from other districts in addition to Rawalpindi, including Murree, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, and Bhakkar.
During his speech, the PEF Chairman stated that the objective of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is to prioritize admitting children who are not in school to the low-performance government.
He stated that the government will provide a monthly fee of Rs1200 to children who are enrolled in government institutions with unsatisfactory performance and are supported by the private sector. Additionally, these children will have the opportunity to receive an education.
He stated that over 4000 low-performing government schools were operated under the public-private partnership model in 2016 and that over 5000 more schools will be operated under the same format in the future.
