OnePlus 13 may Outperform iPhone 16 Pro in Power Efficiency But with Limitations

Written by Tech Desk ·  1 min read >

According to a new tip from a OnePlus employee, the upcoming OnePlus 13 will feature a custom next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset that surpasses the iPhone 16 Pro’s A18 Pro in battery efficiency.

The report comes from Weibo user Cai Zuxuan, who claimed in a post that the as-yet-unnamed chipset “directly beats the A18 Pro” in internal energy efficiency testing; Notebook Check notes that Zuxuan works for OnePlus.

An even more efficient Snapdragon chipset would significantly impact performance and battery life, especially considering Apple’s excellent track record for its own chipsets.

A review of the OnePlus 12 revealed that the phone excels in performance and boasts a sleek design, so it’s no surprise that excitement is building for its successor.

Consider the OnePlus 13: According to several rumors, it will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, an improvement above the optical reader of the OnePlus 12. In order to detect your fingerprint, ultrasonic readers use sound waves with a high frequency, as the name implies. At the moment, only top-tier, premium devices, such as the Google Pixel 9 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, have these readers.

An expensive upgrade

According to Notebook Check, a Weibo user suggests that the OnePlus 13 will come with a price increase, starting at ¥5,299 in China, compared to ¥4,799 for the OnePlus 12. This price hike could be reflected globally as well. Since the OnePlus 12 launched at $799 / £849 internationally, the OnePlus 13 could start at around $879 / £933, which would make it more expensive than the iPhone 16.

OnePlus 13 Rumored to Feature Massive Battery & Enhanced Display

There are growing rumors that the OnePlus 13 could be equipped with a massive 6,000mAh battery, making it one of the largest battery capacities ever seen in a smartphone. This would be a significant upgrade, providing users with even longer usage times and potentially less frequent charging. Alongside this, the OnePlus 13 is expected to feature enhanced screen technology, offering better brightness and improved visual performance, which could make it a strong competitor in the high-end smartphone market.

On October 9, Louis Lee, Head of OnePlus China, teased an October release for the OnePlus 13 in China. However, based on previous launches, it’s likely that a global release will follow a few months later, potentially in early 2025, similar to the release pattern of the OnePlus 12.

While much of this information comes from leaks and speculation, it’s clear that excitement is building around the OnePlus 13. Be sure to stay tuned for official announcements as we get closer to the release.
