Qaisar Sajjad, a resident of Gujar Khan in Rawalpindi, has been sentenced to death under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Mohammad Afzal Majoka of a special court set up under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Besides the death penalty, the special court awarded Sajjad life imprisonment, and seven years imprisonment under Section 11 of PECA and Rs. 700,000 fine for different charges.
The judge also ordered the superintendent of Adiala Jail to ensure his detention.
This strict ruling is because the case was taken by federal investigators. This is the second death penalty verdict in a blasphemy case in the past month.
Pakistan with a population of over 240 million people is infamous for its strict blasphemous law which possibly includes the death penalty, and severe punishments, including capital punishment for offenses against Islamic personalities.
