Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is on the brink of transforming the nation’s internet scene with the expected nod for Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service.
The PTA officials have said that the license has been issued to Starlink to enhance internet speed and connectivity in Pakistan. The approval process has come to some extent, and security clearance is the only remaining.
“Starlink’s license is ready; we are just awaiting security approval,” a PTA official said.
The satellite technology used by Starlink will be a game changer in internet services especially in rural areas where normal broadband has been slow or nonexistent. This is believed to help close the digital gap and provide fast internet to areas that have had a problem with connectivity.
Before the service can start, Starlink needs to sign a commercial partnership with Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).Upon signing this agreement, it will be sent to the PTA for ratification.
When will be Starlink internet available in Pakistan?
If everything unfolds as anticipated, Starlink’s satellite internet service is set to debut within a year, offering an affordable and speedy internet connection to the public.
