The city police officer (CPO) Rawalpindi has directed the chief traffic officer to make sure that traffic wardens do not have mobile games on their phones while on duty. The CPO gave this order on Sunday after receiving several complaints from the public that traffic wardens are not performing well and play games on their mobile phones while on duty.

The issue was brought to CPO Mohammad Faisal Rana’s attention at a public meeting, after which he ordered the traffic wardens to delete games and directed to submit a report in this regard as well. The CPO also ensured that he would carry out surprise checks on traffic wardens at different places, and they will be punished with suitable action if found inattentive while on duty.

A police spokesperson said, “The CPO has also sought reports from superintendents of police, sub-divisional police officers and station house officers on the implementation of his directives issued in a recent meeting with MNAs and MPAs”.

The CPO on Saturday met with parliamentarians and ensured that the Rawalpindi police would perform their duties as suggested by the parliamentarians with regards to community policing, rule of law and effective action against criminals. He also asked the MNAs and MPAs to point out rotten eggs in the department so he can carry out necessary action against them. The parliamentarians present during the meeting included, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, Shafique Khan, Taimur Masood, Haji Amjad, Umer Tanvir Butt, Raja Sagheer, retired Maj Latasab Satti, Chaudhry Sajid and Chaudhry Javed Kausar, respectively.

Furthermore, Mr. Rana also said that firing into the air at weddings and events is banned and the police will take action against those who will act against the law. Police will register cases against the groom and the organizers of the events who were found firing weapons in the air. Departmental action against the police officers will also be taken in case of negligence and incompetence.
