As per the details revealed by Microsoft on Sunday, the next generation of Xbox will come with ultra-powerful specs in late 2020. According to rumors, Microsoft will be launching two Xbox consoles, one having a similar design to the current Xbox One X while the other will be Xbox One S.
The high-end model (Xbox One S) code-named Project Scarlet will include a custom-designed CPU which will be based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA’s architecture. This will make the next generation Xbox four times as more powerful than the current Xbox One X. Furthermore, Microsoft is also using the new and blazing fast GDDR6 RAM which will “usher in resolution and framerates we’ve never seen before.”
The new monstrous specs will enable Xbox One S to support 8K gaming, framerates that support up to 120fps in gaming, ray tracing, and variable refresh rate support. In an unveiling video the Xbox spokesperson said:
“We’ve created a new generation of SSDs. We’re using the SSD as virtual RAM.”
These specs should boost performance by a whopping 40x over the current generation of Xbox. What this means is that the next generation of Xbox (Xbox One S) will load the games considerably faster. Interestingly, Microsoft’s biggest gaming rival Sony has also promised that its upcoming PS5 will also support up to 8K graphics, 3D audio and SSD storage. The best part is that it will support backward compatibility with existing PlayStation 4 titles.
Furthermore, Sony’s PS5 will also support an eight-core CPU based on AMD’s third-gen Ryzen line, and ship with a GPU that supports ray-tracing graphics. It seems the stage is set for the two gaming giants to surprise its fans that have been waiting for a new gaming console for some time now.
