Huawei to launch its first pop-up selfie camera phone, specs revealed

While Huawei has become the 2nd largest phone maker in the world and is also famous for providing state-of-the-art camera setup in its phones, but the company’s effort to jump on at least one of the trendier features appeared quite slow. Even its sub-brand Honor could be looked for things like sliders and punch-hole cutouts.

As of now, that could be changing really soon with what has been rumored as the Huawei P Smart Z. While being a mid-range phone from its core, P Smart Z will try to make its case to become the first Huawei-branded phone to come with a popup camera design.

We know that Huawei is very late to the game. Most phone makers have moved on from popups and sliders, although OPPO, one of the first in that game, just recently announced the OPPO Reno with what has been dubbed as a “gum stick” camera. On the other hand, P Smart Z will be Huawei’s first phone to feature such a camera.

Moreover, the leaked image provided by LetsGoDigital has revealed the design of the phone in full. The phone has a large 6.59-inch 2340×1080 screen with almost no bezels on any side. The rising camera itself houses a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 lens, nothing special is placed aside except for the large sensor.

The Huawei P Smart Z is pretty much a mid-range phone through and through. Android 9 Pie runs on a Kirin 710 paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. There is a large 4,000 mAh battery that could very well last more than a day given those specs. There are only two cameras on its back, a 16-megapixel f/1.8 main sensor, and a 2-megapixel camera probably for depth sensing.

There is still no word on when this phone will launch but when it does, it could have a $234 price tag. The PKR 33,000/- price tag would make it a tempting handset for emerging markets like Pakistan.
