Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Dr. Syed Ismail Shah has been elected to serve as Vice President of the General Assembly of Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT). The election was announced during the 13th session of the APT General Assembly, held through November 25th—26th, 2014 at Yangon, Myanmar.
The Asia Pacific Telecommunity, established in Bangkok in July 1979, is an Intergovernmental Organization that operates in collaboration with telecom operators, communications equipment manufacturers, and R&D organizations active in the field of information, communication, and innovation technologies. The APT covers 38 member countries, with 4 associate members and 131 affiliate members.
Pakistan is one of the 16 founding members of APT as its Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) joined the organization on July 1st, 1979. General Assembly is the supreme organ of APT, and it meets in ordinary session every three years. Dr. Syed Ismail Shah will serve as Vice President of the APT General Assembly until the commencement of next formal session, i.e. for 3 years.
