Girlythings, an application which provides sanitary napkins and urgent menstrual kits to women has won the World Summit Award 2019 in ‘Health and Well-being’ category. The summit which was held in Portugal this year is a unique award system which aims to boost local digital innovation to improve society.
Menstruation is a taboo in Pakistan and owing to social, cultural stigma, women and young girls do not have the confidence to open up and share their challenges and subsequently deal with them. On the other hand, at the World Summit of Art and Culture, Pakistani startup Aurat Raaj has won the category of Learning and Education. Aurat Raaj is a new media platform working to uproot gender inequality in Pakistan and Asia at large. The platform is utilizing Artificial Intelligence to work on an array of applications that can help women and young girls with daily issues.
