Everyone desires for a nice furnished office with a handsome salary package and lots of perks. But what does it take to achieve all that? In fact, a good deal of hard-work with all your might and positive behaviors. Behaviors can mean a lot when managers determine promotion of their employees.

Here are some behaviors that can kill your chance of promotion in your organization:

1. It’s not my Job

Being asked to work on another project which does not come in your job description? Re-think before you say “Its not my Job.” Denying working on such projects will not only kill your chance of promotion but will also affect your job security. Sometimes, the goal is not to get a promotion but to sustain your existing designation. Managers prefer employees who go one step beyond their job roles to promote their organization.

2. Not improving your level of education

Most of the people acquire their basic education and step into their professional career and stop learning. Learning is a continuous process, it does not mean you go back to school or college to get another degree. Degree without skill is like a body without a soul. Acquiring new skills and improving yourself is a great booster for your chance of promotion. Managers believe that people who do not learn new skills and do not improve themselves are diseased by inertia. One should always attend seminars and workshops on motivating subjects like leadership qualities.

3. Enjoying your comfort zone

Leadership theories reveal that violating your comfort zone and friendship zone increases your chance of promotion to a great extent. Being in your comfort zone sounds really nice but it ultimately affects your chance of being promoted to the next level.

4. Being a black sheep of the company

Backbiting, infighting and leg pulling with your colleagues or even with your subordinates spoils your reputation no matter how high your performance chart stands. Misusing, wasting or abusing the resources of organization can severely affect your credibility chart.

5. Not being approachable

You are expected to be seated in your office during the office hours. You need to have empathy for your fellows and peers. If somebody needs your help, they shouldn’t be afraid to approach you. If people are avoiding you because you are not being helpful then you would need to rethink about your attitude.
