4 things to expect from Apple’s WWDC 2016

Apple’s WWDC 2016 is going to begin on 13th June and rumors suggest that Apple has more to talk about this year than ever before!

The WWDC is Apple’s software exhibition where the technology giant primarily talks about developments in its operating system. This year, Apple has 4 operating systems to talk about: iOS, OS X, tvOS, and watchOS. Apple’s WWDC 2016 will start on 13th June and TechJuice will be covering the event live.

Every year, rumors from reliable sources allow us to unveil Apple’s plans before the actual event begins. According to these leaks, Siri is going to be the center of attraction this year. This is expected since we’ve heard a lot of news about artificial intelligence and bots in the recent months. To help you understand what exactly is expected from the highly anticipated event, we’ve put together a preview for you to enjoy.

1. Siri:

There are two main reasons why Siri is going to be this year’s star at the WWDC. One, it is being launched, finally, on the Mac. Second, it is about to become much more powerful than ever before.

According to reports, Siri will not be built into the OS X that will allow you to do everything that you can do with Siri on your iPhone. You can talk to Siri, open apps, type in emails, and handle basic tasks with the help of voice commands given to Siri on the Mac. What’s best is that this update will be coming to both older MacBooks as well.

The next big update is that Siri is going to be supported by third-party apps too now. This means that the functionalities of Siri will not be limited to basic tasks such as sending a message or playing music only. Now, you’ll be able to order a Pizza from Foodpanda, hail an Uber, and even check your Facebook with the help of Siri! Developers will now be able to tell Siri what commands to accept and how the user can directly interact with their apps through voice commands.

2. OS X:

The first and most important announcement here is that OS X is going to be re-branded as MacOS from this year onwards. Why? For consistency purposes since the smartphone platform is iOS, the TV platform is tvOS, and hence, the Mac platform is MacOS.

This is going to be the second name change for the operating system. In the past, before 2012, it was known as Mac OS X. It was then shortened to OS X until now in 2016 when it will officially become MacOS (this will hopefully be the last iteration of the name).

The other announcement regarding OS X is that it will be supporting Siri from now onwards. There is always news that the Photos app could get some brand new features.

3. iOS:

The biggest announcements to the iOS platform seem to be for Siri, Apple Music, and the Photos app. As mentioned above, Siri is being made more powerful by allowing it to be accessible by third-party apps.

Apple Music, on the other hand, will be getting a brand new interface that is simpler and cleaner than the current version. The primary focus of Apple Music will now be “For You” section that is the personalized music section.

The Photos app on iOS will also be getting some new and improved features that include a Markup feature (similar to that on the app Skitch).

4. No hardware:

Yes, the key focus of Apple at the WWDC 2016 is software only. We won’t be seeing any sort of hardware being launched, according to 9to5Mac reports. No MacBooks, no iPhones, no Apple Watches, and no iPads. You’ll have to wait until September for that.
