Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has indicated that recently auctioned 3G and 4G licenses will be awarded to the telecom companies in a license award ceremony on May 22nd, Thursday. According to PTA, Ufone, Mobilink and Telenor will be awarded with 3G licenses while Zong will be given 3G and 4G licenses. This much-waited license award ceremony is mandatory for telecom operators to commercially launch new services in the Pakistan.
The ceremony was initially planned for May 10th but was later rescheduled for May 17th, as mobile phone companies had not deposited the upfront payment for the spectrum they won in the auction. Prime Minister of Pakistan is also expected to be present at the ceremony and will award the license to the winners by himself. So, it can be said that we might see the commercial release of 3G in the country on May 22nd.
