35,000 Pakistani’s are studying abroad on HEC scholarships

According to a new report, over 35,000 Pakistani students are studying abroad in well-reputed universities via HEC funded scholarships.

This announcement was made by HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute’s (GIKI) orientation ceremony of the Freshman batch. Dr. Ahmed also stressed on the importance of technical education and how it is the key to gaining prosperity in our country. We live in a country that is challenged with the burning issue of poverty and a crumbling economy. He urged the country’s leading institutions to play their role in preparing the youth for the challenges of tomorrow. He went on to say:

“We need a competent and motivated manpower to address issues like poverty and under-development. We live in a highly competitive world and we have to deliver in various fields.”

However, most of the students upon their return from abroad find it hard to adjust in Pakistan’s eco-system that is not very friendly towards researchers and young graduates looking for a career in teaching.

GIKI along with Pakistan’s other top institutions, NUST, PIEAS etc., are geared towards research and have some of the best researchers in their faculty. The need of the hour is for this top-notch faculty to pass on their invaluable wisdom, guide and push the students to opt for a similar path. The more independent and self-sufficient Pakistan becomes in solving problems on its own the more it will pay off in the long run.

Recently, European Union announced that it is granting 400 million Euros to Pakistani researchers.
