20 Mehran UET students are headed to USA to work on water sustainability

20 delegates from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) are headed to the University of Utah, USA to do research on water sustainability.

These 20 people, comprising of MUET students and faculty members, were recently congratulated by U.S. Consul General Brian Heath in a dedicated ceremony. The delegates are actually part of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded U.S.Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W).

Speaking at the event, Consul General Heath said:

“We are proud to empower women scientists and researchers in Pakistan to solve its water problems.”

The ceremony was also attended by Vice Chancellor Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Muhammad Aslam Uqaili; USPCAS-W Programme Director, Bakshal Lashari; University of Utah Chief of Party, Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry and USAID Deputy Director Craig Buck.

The USAID has signed a $14.8 million cooperative agreement with MUET as well as $9 million with the University of Utah to establish a Centre for Advanced Studies in Water (CAS-W) at MUET. Based on this collaboration, University of Utah is providing technical assistance to MUET to educate and train their students to become water sustainability leaders. Their exchange program will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience and exposure to applied research.

Brian Heath also spoke about establishing an IT Park in Hyderabad that would motivate local students and allow them to take advantage of the modern technology at their disposal.
